Hilton Head, S.C. - The Mercyhurst men's tennis team got its spring break off to a strong start, defeating York College 7-2 Sunday in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

The Lakers swept doubles play in easy fashion, dropping just five games in the three matches combined. Mercyhurst also won each of the top four singles matches, losing only one set along the way.

Mariano Fava and Lee Michael Marnik won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, followed by 8-2 wins from Mijo Cotic and Mateusz Przbysz at No. 2 and Kyle King and Ronald Heurich at No. 3.

In singles action, Fava won a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 match at No. 1, but the Lakers cruised at the next three spots. Marnik won 6-2, 6-1, Przbysz was victorious 6-0, 6-2 and Cotic rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

York fell to 0-1 on the year, while Mercyhurst improves to 4-2. The Lakers will play Adrian at 1 p.m. and Augustana at 6 p.m. Monday in Hilton Head.
