Men's Tennis Loses Spring Opener To Carnegie Mellon
Feb. 3, 2007
Erie, Pa. - Following a 3-1 fall season, the Mercyhurst men's tennis team opened its spring season Saturday by hosting NCAA Division III No. 14 Carnegie Mellon. Lee Michael Marnik picked up a pair of wins but that was all the Lakers could muster in a 7-2 defeat. Marnik defeated Ravi Raghavan at No. 2 singles in a thrilling 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) match for the team's only singles win. He then teamed up with Mariano Fava to defeat Raghavan and Jordan Koslosky at No. 1 doubles 8-2. The Lakers were not without opportunities to pick up more points but they were unable to finish out a few hard-fought matches. Fava won the opening set at No. 1 singles 6-2, but eventually lost to James Muliawan 6-4, 10-6 in the second set and a third set super tiebreak. Mercyhurst's Mijo Cotic and Mateusz Przbysz also came up just short at No. 2 doubles 8-6. Mercyhurst is now 3-2 on the year and will be back in action Sunday when the Lakers host Niagara at 2 p.m. |
