Familiar Foes Set to Renew Rivalry in GLIAC Playoffs

Oct. 30, 2007

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's soccer team will get its third chance to knock off cross-town rival Gannon on Thursday in the GLIAC tournament. The Lakers and the Knights have met twice this year, one ending in a 1-0 win for Gannon and the most recent on Saturday ending in a 1-1 tie. In the tournament, Mercyhurst is the No.4 seed, while Gannon secured the No. 1 seed.

On Saturday, the Lakers and the Knights ended the match in a 1-1 draw in double overtime. Freshman Billy Colton scored the lone goal for Mercyhurst and the Laker offense tallied 22 shots to Gannon's 19. Junior goalkeeper Daniel Mudd recorded seven saves.

Earlier in the season, Mercyhurst fell to Gannon 2-1 in overtime. Again, freshman Billy Colton provided the only Laker goal.

The game on Thursday is set for 2:30 p.m. at Gannon University. The winner of the match will play the winner of the Saginaw Valley-Northwood game on Saturday in the championship at 7:00 p.m.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and children, and $2 for students with IDs.
