Lakers Hold On To No. 4 Regional Ranking
Oct. 24, 2006 Erie, Pa. - With a spot to the NCAA Division II National Championships on the line, the Mercyhurst men's soccer team held onto the No. 4 ranking in the Great Lakes Region by the Men's Soccer Committee. The top four teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the 32 team National Championships. Mercyhurst is 15-3 overall and 12-3 in the Great Lakes Region, one of the key components to the rankings. The Lakers held off Indianapolis (13-7 overall and in the region), Gannon (11-5-1 overall and 10-5-1 in the region), and Rockhurst (9-5-4 overall and 8-5-4 in the region). With a 12-3-3 overall record and a 12-2-1 Region record, Southern Illinois Edwardsville remains at the top of the Great Lakes Region. Northern Kentucky (14-2-2 overall and 12-2-2 in region) is No. 2 and Wisconsin-Parkside (13-2-3 overall and 11-2-3 in region) is one spot in front of Mercyhurst at No. 3. The final selections for the National Championships will take place October 30. The first two rounds will pit region teams against each other during the first week of November. |
