Kurt Young Adds ECAC Player of the Week Award

Oct. 4, 2006

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst College forward Kurt Young added a second Player of the Week award as he was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week. The award follows the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), as he was named Player of the Week there as well. The freshman scored four goals as the Lakers picked up a pair of wins.

Young had his first career hat trick, scoring three goals in Mercyhurst's 5-1 GLIAC victory over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday. He scored each of the Lakers' first three goals in the contest. Young also scored the game-winning goal in Mercyhurst's 2-1 non-conference victory at Houghton, tallying the score in the 71st minute of play. He currently leads the GLIAC in goals with 12 and points with 24, and ranks tied for third in points per game at 1.85. Young is tied for second in the league with four game-winning goals this season.

Mercyhurst owns an 11-2 record in 2006, including a perfect 5-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers travel to Oakland City October 4 for a regional game against the Mighty Oaks (5-5-1) at 3:00 PM.
