Daniel Mudd Named GLIAC Player Of The Week
Sept. 18, 2006 Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Mudd was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week after helping the Lakers to three consecutive shutouts this week.
Mudd, who has played all but 74 minutes in goal this year, recorded eight saves in Mercyhurst's 1-0 win over Southern Indiana. Although the Screaming Eagles held a 19-9 advantage in shots, Mudd kept the Lakers in the game and let teammate Kurt Young's goal in the 18th minute hold up for the win.
Mudd also played in goal for Mercyhurst's 4-0 victories over both Myers and Kentucky Wesleyan. In all, Mercyhurst has recorded six consecutive shutouts and has allowed only three goals all season. The shutout streak is the longest since the team recorded six in a row in 1985.
Mercyhurst has now held two consecutive GLIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week Awards. Tyler Emerick was honored a week ago after scoring three goals, including two game-winners, in GLIAC victories over Ashland and Findlay.
Mercyhurst is now 7-1 on the year and 2-0 in the GLIAC. The Lakers will look to make it seven consecutive shutout victories Wednesday when the squad plays at rival Gannon at 7 p.m. |
