MIDLAND, Mich. - Sophomore Tyler Emerick of the Mercyhurt College men's soccer team has been named the Player of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Emerick, a forward, scored a total of three goals in GLIAC victories over Ashland and Findlay, including the game-winner in both contests.

Against Ashland, his goal nine minutes into play put the Lakers ahead 1- 0 and the score stayed that way until Mercyhurst tacked on two goals late. Against Findlay, Emerick put Mercyhurst ahead 1-0 with a goal in the 22nd minute and then added another in the 39th minute that made the score 3-0 at the half. Emerick did not score in the first three non-conference matches, but has sparked the offense in conference play.

With three goals this season, Emerick has needed just five games to surpass his total of two goals for all of 2005.

Mercyhurst is 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the GLIAC heading into Wednesday's non-conference match with NAIA foe Myers. Kickoff at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field is set for 4:00 PM.
