Jackson Hat Trick Lifts No. 25 Mercyhurst OVer Northwood, 4-0

Oct. 26, 2006

Stats

ERIE, Pa. - No. 25 Mercyhurst's (16-3, 8-1 GLIAC) Kyle Jackson entered the game with just three goals on the season, but hung a hat trick on Northwood (8-8-1, 5-4-1 GLIAC) as the Lakers captured a 4-0 defeat from the Timberwolves.

Jackson, the team leader in assists, and Kurt Young, the Laker's top goal scorer, reversed roles as Jackson tallied three scores, and Young added a pair of assists. Young also scored one goal.

Jackson's first goal came in the 11th minute, when Young crossed him the ball and he placed it into the back of the goal for a 1-0 Laker advantage.

The score remained 1-0 until Mercyhurst added a pair of goals in a two minute span late in the first half. At 36:20, Young scored on a header off a direct kick from Jason Pedra. Jackson then made it 3-0 when he dribbled through a pair of Timberwolf defenders and beat Kenny Huber at 38:45.

Jackson finished the scoring in the second half with a goal at 53:23, when Young crossed the ball to Jackson, who scored from 15 yards.

The Mercyhurst defense made the lead hold up, as the Lakers allowed just six shots in the entire game. Mercyhurst, meanwhile, reeled off 20 shots in the contest.

Daniel Mudd made just one save to pick up the shutout.

Huber and Mike Hufstader each played a half in goal for Northwood. Huber made six saves and allowed the first three goals. Hufstader did not make a save and allowed one score.

Mercyhurst held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lakers close the regular season on Sunday, October 29 with a 2:00 PM game against rival Gannon at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
