Mercyhurst Picks Up 2-1 Win at Ashland

ERIE, Pa. - A pair of defenders, Andy Tait and Nicholas Thompson, scored goals as Mercyhurst (14-3, 6-1 GLIAC) defeated Ashland (4-9-1, 4-5 GLIAC) on the road in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) match. Both Laker goals came in the first half. Tait scored the game's first goal, his second of the season, at 13:59 with an assist from Tyler Emerick. Tait took the shot from 15 yards out into the top, right corner. Thompson scored what proved to be the game-winner later in the half. He took a shot from 13 yards that went off the hands of Greg Habib and into the net for a 2-0 Mercyhurst advantage. Ashland scored its goal late in the second half. Dean Williams was awarded a penalty kick and went into the top, right corner to beat Daniel Mudd. Mercyhurst outshot the Eagles 17-7, including 12-1 in the first 45 minutes. Mudd made one save. Habib and Blaize Lishewski each played a half in goal for Ashland. They each made one save. Mercyhurst finishes its seven-match road trip on Sunday, October 22, when the Lakers travel to Findlay for a 2:30 PM contest. |
