Lakers Double Up Oakland City, 4-2
Oct. 4, 2006 OAKLAND CITY, Ind. - A goal by Jason Pedra in the 76th minute broke a 2-2 deadlock as Mercyhurst (12-2) defeated Oakland City (5-6-2) 4-2. Mercyhurst got on the board first, with a goal by Matt Richards at 29:15, assisted by Pedra. The Mighty Oaks tied the score before the half, however, as Ernesto Becerra scored the first of his two goals on the day, with an assist from Adem Ali. Kurt Young broke the 1-1 tie early in the second half. After a long throw in, Andy Tait flicked the ball to Young who found the back of the net for his 13th goal of the season. Becerra brought Oakland City back just four minutes later, this time with and assist from Callum Grindlay at 54:32. Pedra would put the game away at 75:23. Rabii Karanouh set up the senior, who hit a shot from 25 yards into the top corner. Sean Spangler added an insurance goal with an assist from Young at 87:28 to end any hope of a Might Oak comeback. Daniel Mudd made five saves in net for the Lakers. Mercyhurst outshot Oakland City 9-4 in the game and held a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Lakers also committed just five fouls in the contest, compared to 14 for the Mighty Oaks. Scott Cliff made seven saves for Oakland City. Mercyhurst travels to Tiffin on Saturday, October 7 for a 3:00 PM regional matchup. |
