Five Minute Stretch Dooms Lakers

Univ. Center, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley Cardinals scored four goals in a little over five minutes in the first half to secure the GLIAC 4-1 victory over the Mercyhurst Lakers. Mercyhurst now posts a 3-4-2 record and are 1-2 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley is 4-4-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in the GLIAC.

Right before the 22nd minute mark, the Saginaw Valley Cardinals exploded on a four goal scoring escapade in which four different players tallied goals. The first three goals were about a minute apart and the last goal was a little over three minutes after the third. The Cardinals could do no wrong on Sunday by placing nine of its 12 shots on goal.

The Lakers regained composure in the second half and placed the ball in the back of the net around the 75th minute mark. Junior Tyler Emerick tallied the Lakers lone goal unassisted to bring his season total to two goals and one assist.

Despite the score, Mercyhurst out shot the Cardinals 14-12 and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Daniel Mudd recorded five saves on the day.

Mercyhurst will look to bounce back on Friday when it travels to play another conference opponent at Findlay. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
