Lakers Blank Southern Indiana For Fifth Straight Shutout

Sept. 15, 2006

Stats

Evansville, Ind. - Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Mudd recorded his tenth career shutout and freshman Kurt Young tallied his team-high sixth goal of the season as Mercyhurst went on the road for the first time this year and defeated Southern Indiana 1-0.

The Lakers have won five consecutive matches and Young and Mudd have played key roles in every one of those victories. Young has scored goals in all five contests, while Mudd has been in goal as Mercyhurst has run off five consecutive shutouts, the most since the team had six in a row in 1985.

While the Lakers were outshot 19-9, Young put the team on top in the 18th minute as senior Jason Pedra handed out his second assist of the year. Mercyhurst held on as the Screaming Eagles pressed for a goal in the second half, outshooting the Lakers 12-5.

Mudd made eight saves, five of which came in the second half.

Mercyhurst, now 6-1 on the year, will play at Kentucky Wesleyan Sunday at noon.
