Emerick and Jackson Shine in 4-0 Win Over Findlay
Sept. 10, 2006
ERIE, Pa. - Tyler Emerick scored two goals with assists from Kyle Jackson, who also scored once, as Mercyhurst (4-1, 2-0 GLIAC) defeated Findlay (0-4, 0-1 GLIAC) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest. It was the third consecutive shutout victory for the Lakers, who have not surrendered a goal in 274:21. Emerick scored both of his goals in the first half and now has three on the season, surpasssing his total of two as a freshman in 2005 after only five games. The sophomore scored what proved to be the game-winner at 21:35. Jackson took a shot on Findlay's Conrad Davenport and the rebound kicked to Emerick who placed the ball high into the right corner of the net. The Lakers spread it to 2-0 at 28:23 when Kurt Young scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season on a header into the upper right corner of the net. Emerick added his second score of the game when Jackson crossed the ball to the left side of the goal at 38:22. Emerick laced a shot high into the center of the goal for a 3-0 Laker lead at the intermission. Jackson capped the scoring in the second half with a goal off a rebound from Nicholas Thompson's shot. Thompson had two assists on the day after also aiding on Young's score in the 29th minute. The four goals proved more than enough as the Mercyhurst defense of Andy Tait, Matt Richards and Jeffrey Powell held Findlay to only three shots in the game. Daniel Mudd made a pair of saves to pick up his third shutout of the season. Davenport allowed the first three Laker goals during the first half and was replaced by Daryl Lotz at the half. Davenport had five saves, Lotz made four. Mercyhurst held a 27-3 advantage in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Lakers will look for their fourth straight win when NAIA foe Myers comes to Erie for a 4:00 PM kickoff on September 13. |
