Young Scores Twice in 2-0 Win Over Rockhurst
Sept. 3, 2006
ERIE, Pa. - Kurt Young scored a pair of goals in the first half as Mercyhurst (2-1) picked up a 2-0 win over Rockhurst (0-2-1). The Lakers also held the Hawks to just one shot on goal in the game. Young notched the game-winner, his first career score, in the 17th minute at 16:45 and then followed it with another goal, just over seven and a half minutes later in the 26th minute. On the first score, Andy Tait crossed the ball to Young, who chipped it over a diving Chad Becker. Becker had come out of goal to try to stop the ball. At 25:18, Young shot the ball from right to left over the keeper from 25 yards to cap the scoring in the game. Daniel Mudd needed just one save to earn the shutout. The back line of Tait, Nicholas Thompson and Jeffrey Powell held Rockhurst without a shot for the first 40:39 of the game and the Hawks only shot on goal came at 61:51. Becker made four saves in goal for Rockhurst. Mercyhurst will look for its second straight win with a home game against Ashland on September 6. The Lakers GLIAC opener has a 4:00 PM kickoff. |
