Lakers' Second Straight Overtime Ends In Tie
Aug. 26, 2007
Erie, Pa. - Junior Robbie Kennerney scored the lone goal for the Mercyhurst Lakers' in the 69th minute to tie the game at 1-1 against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers on Sunday afternoon. The game would result in a tie after two overtime periods and leave the Lakers' with an opening weekend 0-1-1 result. Laker goalkeeper Daniel Mudd and Panther Andrew Minton played extraordinary for their teams in the first half, both earning at least four saves. The Mercyhurst offense generated 11 shots and three corners in the first half, while the Panther offense only managed four shots and two corners. Kentucky Wesleyan's Joe Williams got his team on the scoreboard early when he slipped behind the Laker defense and gathered a cross from teammate Jeff Smith. Mercyhurst answered back a little more than ten minutes later when Kennerney was substituted into the game for a corner kick. He gathered in a deflection off of that corner kick and found the back of the net. In overtime, the Lakers fired off eight shots to the Panthers' two and earned four corners to their one. Unfortunately, time ran out on the clock before the Lakers could clinch the win. The Lakers will be back in action at Seton Hill Wednesday. Start time is set for 3:00 p.m. |
