Rochester, N.Y. - The Mercyhurst rowing team opened the fall season at the Stonehurst Capital Invitational Regatta in Rochester, NY. The event was comprised of a 3.1-mile time trial in the morning followed by a 1500 meter sprint in the afternoon.

The 1500-meter time is multiplied by 3x and added to the morning time to give the final result. In the men's varsity eight the men finished 11th of 23 overall and 5th in the collegiate category with a time of 31:03.09. The Lakers trailed 2005 national champion Harvard University, who finished in a time of 28.53.84.

The men's lightweight eight was the highest placing American crew finishing 4th overall with a time of 32:09.94. The winning crew, Queens University from Ottawa, finished with a time of 29.41.38.

Mercyhurst will compete at the Head of the Charles (Boston) in two weeks.
