Lightweight Eight Wins SIRA Championships

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The lightweight eight remained undefeated and knocked off the defending national champions at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championships. The lightweight eight edged past St. Joseph's (Pa.) by just six inches with a time of 6:11.4, three-tenths faster than the Hawks. Jacksonville was two seconds off the pace in third, followed by Georgia Tech, Grand Valley, and Purdue. In the varsity eight, Mercyhurst finished 15th in a 20-boat field. Virginia was the overall champion. The Lakers 6:19.9 was good for third in the third level final after Dayton's 6:16.3 and Tulane's 6:18.0. Michigan State, Cincinnati and Tennessee rounded out the third level final. Mercyhurst returns home for the East Regional Invitational on April 28.
