Joe Thon Named Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

June 28, 2007

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst College graduate Joe Thon has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The first Mercyhurst player ever drafted by Major League Lacrosse (MLL), Thon maintained a 3.48 grade point average during his time at Mercyhurst.

Thon was named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division II Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and was also a USILA First Team All-American. He started all 15 games for Mercyhurst this year, leading the Lakers to a 13-2 record and their first appearance in the NCAA Division II title game.

Following the 2007 season, Thon was selected in the fourth round by the Rochester Rattlers of the MLL, one of only five non-Division I players selected in the entire draft.

Along with Thon, three other athletes were named to the ECC Men's Lacrosse Honor Roll. Dowling's Ryan Campbell, NYIT's Brett Neal and Molloy's Dom Toscano each demonstrated excellence in the classroom and on the field in 2007.
