Three Lakers Named All-Americans

May 26, 2008

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst College junior goalie Jason LaShomb was named an All-American for the second consecutive, receiving United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) first team honors for the first time. Junior defender Matt Spahr was named to the second team and junior midfielder Mike Thon was named honorable mention.

LaShomb was an easy selection for first team All-American honors as he also received the USILA's Kelly Award as the Outstanding Goalie in Division II. He went 9-4 and ranked third in the country with a 6.52 goals against average. His .601 save percentage was fifth in Division II and he was also named East Coast Conference First Team All-Conference.

Spahr was the top defender on a team that succeeds with its defense. In an 8-1 victory over then-No. 4 C.W. Post, he held one of the top scorers in the country to just two shots and no points as the Lakers pulled off an upset. He was also named ECC First Team All-Conference, led the team with 15 caused turnovers and ranked third on the squad with 35 ground balls.

Thon was the team's top returning scoring threat from a squad that went to the national championship game in 2007 and graduated almost its entire attack. He did not disappoint as he led the squad with 25 goals and tied for the team-lead with 31 points. An ECC First Team All-Conference player, Thon ranked second on the squad with 37 ground balls and was the team's main faceoff specialist.
