Eight Lakers Named All-Conference

May 11, 2007

Erie, Pa. - After a 12-1 regular season, a 6-0 conference record, and a No. 1 ranking, the Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team heaped on the awards by the East Coast Conference. The Lakers had five ECC First Team All-Conference performers and three second team members.

Seniors Bryon Lindner, Adam Mulherin, Mike Grizanti, and Joe Thon were named first team all-conference, along with sophomore goalkeeper Jason Lashomb. Seniors Scott Janssen and Ryan Wallace were named to the second team, as was sophomore Matt Spahr.

Lindner was one of three attackers on the first team after recording 36 goals and six assists this year, to go with 16 ground balls. He set a school record by tallying eight goals against Molloy and was named Nike Division II Player of the Week and ECC Player of the Week.

Mulherin was one of three midfielders named to the first team, finishing with 25 goals and 14 assists. He was also tied for third on the team with 29 ground balls.

Grizanti was the long stick man on the first team, tallying one assist and 19 ground balls. He led the squad with 15 caused turnovers.

Thon was one of four defenders on the first team. He picked up two assists on the season, grabbed 31 ground balls and had 14 caused turnovers.

Lashomb was the first team goalkeeper after being named ECC Goalkeeper of the Week five times this year. Stepping into the shoes left by graduating senior All-American Mike Bringley, he finished with a .620 save percentage and allowed just 6.54 goals per game.

Janssen made the second team after finishing with 25 goals and 10 assists and was one of five players with at least 35 points. Wallace was the second team specialist who won 59 percent of his faceoffs and grabbed a team-high 62 ground balls. Spahr was named second team defender, tallying a goal and an assist to go with 25 ground balls.
