Janssen, Lashomb Honored By East Coast Conference
April 30, 2007 Erie, Pa. - Two Mercyhurst men's lacrosse players were honored by the East Coast Conference in the weekly honors. Scott Janssen was named ECC Player of the Week and Jason Lashomb was named Co-Goaltender of the Week, the fourth time he has been awarded the honor this year. Janssen scored five goals as No. 1 Mercyhurst beat No. 2 NYIT 12-9 on Saturday. He followed that up a day later with three goals in a 17-7 win over Dominican that clinched at least a share of the East Coast Conference title for the Lakers. In the hard-fought win over NYIT, Janssen scored two of the first three goals to put the Lakers ahead 3-0, including a score just 47 seconds into the contest. He added two goals in the second period and scored a critical goal in the third after NYIT had put together five consecutive goals to close to within one. Against Dominican, Janssen scored all three goals in the first period as the Lakers built a 9-1 lead after one period. Lashomb shared the Goalkeeper of the Week award with C.W. Post's Nick Dello-Iacano. It marks the fourth time in the past five weeks that Lashomb has received the award. He made 10 saves as No. 1 Mercyhurst beat No. 2 NYIT 12-9 Saturday. He then added three saves in 38:42 in a 17-7 win over Dominican Sunday. The Mercyhurst defense set the tone early in both games, allowing just three goals combined in the first halves as the Lakers offense scored 21 goals in that stretch. |
