Lindner Named Nike Player Of The Week

April 24, 2007

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst senior attacker Bryon Lindner was named Nike Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse for NCAA Division II after scoring a school-record eight goals in the Lakers' win over Molloy Sunday. The award is added to another he already received, the East Coast Conference Player of the Week.

Lindner scored a school-record eight goals in No. 1 Mercyhurst's 17-9 win over No. 7 Molloy Sunday, adding an assist in the contest. He scored three times in the first period as the Lakers built a 5-1 lead and then added his fourth goal of the game in the second quarter. He added on two more goals in each of the final two quarters. Lindner scored the eight goals on 10 shots, registering two ground balls as well.

Lindner's eight goals are one better than the prior school record of seven, reached three times previously. Former Laker Troy Ledbetter achieved the feat once and Mike McLellan, who currently plays for the New York Titans of National League Lacrosse, scored seven goals twice.

The honor marks the second time in his career he has been named Nike Player of the Week. Lindner received the award a year ago when the Lakers upset then-No. 2 C.W. Post 10-9.

Mercyhurst will put its No. 1 ranking on the line twice this weekend as the Lakers host No. 2 New York Tech Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and follow that up the next day by hosting Dominican (N.Y.) in a make-up game Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
