No.6 Lakers Face Off With No.1 Le Moyne Sunday

March 6, 2008

Erie, Pa. - The No. 6 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team faces familiar foe No.1 Le Moyne Sunday at 1 p.m. at West Genesee High School. The teams last met in the Division II National Championship game on May 27, 2007. The Le Moyne Dolphins pulled out a 6-5 victory for the national title off of a tipped pass that found the back of the net with only one second remaining in regulation.

No.6 Mercyhurst is coming off a 7-6 overtime loss to Wingate Saturday. Junior Mike Bartlett led the Lakers with two goals and one assist. The Lakers built up a 4-1 halftime lead before allowing six second-half goals. Preseason All-American Jason LaShomb recorded nine saves in the contest.

No. 1 Le Moyne defeated No. 5 Dowling 8-2 Saturday, extending its current win streak to 12. Brian Cost scored three goals in the game, while Mike McDonald and Nick Gatto tallied two goals apiece. Goalkeeper Doug McIver was named Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week for his efforts between the pipes.

Mercyhurst is 0-4 all-time against Le Moyne and the Dolphins handed the Lakers their only home loss of the season in 2007, beating the Lakers 8-7 in overtime.
