Lindner Scores Eight As No. 1 Lakers Put Molloy Away Early
April 22, 2007 Rockville Centre, N.Y. - Mercyhurst senior Bryon Lindner scored a school-record eight goals and added an assist as the No. 1 ranked men's lacrosse team defeated No. 7 Molloy 17-9 Sunday. The Lakers opened up a big lead during the first half and rolled to the win. Lindner had three first-period goals as Mercyhurst jumped on top 5-1 after one period. The Lakers added five more goals to open the second quarter to build a 10-1 lead and held onto a 10-3 advantage at the half. Lindner was one of five different Lakers to post goals during that second period. Molloy scored its third consecutive goal to start the third quarter but Mercyhurst ended any comeback hopes with three straight goals of its own, two from Lindner. The Lakers finished with four fourth quarter goals, two more from Lindner, as Mercyhurst posted its second highest offensive output of the year. Ryan Arnold was the only other Laker to score multiple goals, posting one in the first and one more in the fourth. David Osier handed out four assists to go with his second quarter goal. Jason Lashomb, the three-time East Coast Conference Goaltender of the Week, made 14 saves in 58:12 and Chris Davis played the final 1:48 in goal. Lindner's eight goals break the school record of seven set three times, once by Troy Ledbetter and twice by Mike McLellan, who plays for the New York Titans in National League Lacrosse. Molloy falls to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the ECC while Mercyhurst improves to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the ECC. The win sets up the Lakers' second No. 1 vs. No. 2 game of the year as Mercyhurst will host No. 2 New York Tech Saturday at 1 p.m. in the team's final home game of the regular season. Mercyhurst defeated Dowling 12-4 earlier this year when Mercyhurst was No. 2 and Dowling was No. 1. |
