No. 3 Mercyhurst Shakes Off Pesky Seton Hill

March 24, 2007

Box Score

Greensburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team improved its record to 5-1 by scoring the final six goals to defeat the Seton Hill Griffins 14-7 Saturday. Mercyhurst dominated play by outshooting Seton Hill 56-21 but only took a 9-7 lead into the final period.

Seton Hill scored the first two goals of the game, but Mercyhurst's Ryan Arnold scored two of his three goals in the final 1:41 of the first period to tie the score after one. The Lakers scored six of the next seven goals and seemed to be in control of the contest before Seton Hill answered.

Chris Horigan and Justin Menefee each scored twice and the Griffins scored the next four tallies as Mercyhurst's lead shrunk to one at 8-7. But the Lakers turned up the defensive intensity to keep Seton Hill from getting the tie goal.

Six different players scored the final six goals for Mercyhurst and the Lakers kept Seton Hill scoreless over the final 25 minutes of play. Adam Mulherin's third goal of the game came with 7:29 remaining in the third to put the Lakers ahead 9-7. A Scott Sullivan goal early in the fourth made it 10-7 and Tyler Burton, Aaron Manzer, Derek Pino and Mike Bartlett posted goals in the final 6:35 of action.

David Osier finished with a team-high seven points, handing out six assists. Mulherin and Arnold had three goals, while Manzer finished with two goals and an assist. Manzer and Mulherin each had five ground balls for team-high honors.

In goal, Jason Lashomb made four saves to record the win, playing all 60 minutes.

Mercyhurst will return home to host Notre Dame de Namur Saturday at 4 p.m.
