Laker Offense Shutdown by LeMoyne in 17-1 Loss
March 9, 2008 Syracuse, N.Y. - In a rematch of the 2007 Division II Championship game, the Mercyhurst Lakers men's lacrosse team never found an offensive rhythm against the LeMoyne Dolphins, suffering a 17-1 loss Sunday. Sophomore Derek Pino scored his first goal of the season and the lone tally for the Lakers late in the third period. The high powered Dolphin offense never allowed the Laker defense a moment for breathing room, firing off 42 shots to the Lakers' 18. Eleven different players scored for LeMoyne and nine of the 17 goals were assisted. The Dolphins played a smooth and steady offensive game, scoring at least four goals in each period. Mercyhurst was 0-2 on extra man opportunities, while LeMoyne capitalized on three of its eight chances. Mercyhurst also committed 16 turnovers to the Dolphins' seven. Le Moyne held a 29-18 advantage in groundballs and Mercyhurst won 10 of the 21 face-offs. Laker goalkeeper Jason LaShomb recorded nine saves in the first three periods. Freshman goalkeeper Zach Nash tallied one save in the final 15:00 minutes of play. Mercyhurst falls even to 2-2 this season, while LeMoyne remains undefeated at 2-0 overall. The Lakers will regroup to open its home opener against No. 3 Limestone Saturday at 1 p.m. |
