No. 3 Lakers Win Tenth Straight Road Game

Laurinburg, N.C. - The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team won its tenth consecutive regular-season road game dating back to the 2006 season, defeating St. Andrews Presbyterian 9-4 Wednesday. Mercyhurst, ranked No. 3 in the country, gave up just one goal in each of the first two quarters and shut out St. Andrews in the third to build a 6-2 lead heading into the fourth period. The Lakers outscored St. Andrews 3-2 over the final 15 minutes for the 9-4 win. Aaron Manzer and Michael Sciulli each had three goals and Manzer added an assist for a game-high four points. Tyler Burton, Mike Bartlett and Mike Thon had a goal each. Mercyhurst led 2-1 after one quarter but Sciulli and Thon scored 16 seconds apart in the first minute of the second quarter to make the score 4-1. Cole Howell's second goal of the game came with 10:25 to play in the second period and made the score 4-2 at the half. The Lakers put the contest away by scoring four goals in the first 19 minutes of the second half and keeping St. Andrews off the scoreboard until there were less than six minutes to play. Mercyhurst outshot St. Andrews 39-19 for the game, including 34-12 over the first three quarters. Jason LaShomb made 11 saves and allowed only four goals between the pipes. He added five ground balls to tie for team-high honors with Burton. The Lakers held a 43-36 advantage in ground balls. St. Andrews falls to 0-2 on the season and Mercyhurst improves to 2-0. The Lakers will play at Wingate Saturday at 1 p.m. |
