Gurtler and Lundin Named Conference Player and Goaltender of the Week
Dec. 17, 2007
Wakefield, Mass. - Mercyhurst freshman forward Mike Gurtler and junior Matt Lundin are the Atlantic Hockey Association Player and Goaltender of the Week. Freshman Brandon Coccimiglio was selected an honorable mention. Mercyhurst (5-11-2, AH 5-5-2) swept American International College last weekend at the Ice Center by scores of 5-4 and 2-1. Gurtler recorded the first multiple-goal (2) and multiple-point (3) game of his career in Friday's 5-4 win. He doubled his goal output to four and increased his total points to five. He scored the Lakers 2nd and 4th goals and his line accumulated seven points in the game. Lundin and the Lakers posted their first weekend sweep of the season with two wins over AIC. Lundin stopped a combined 50 of 55 shots over the weekend. Two of the goals allowed came on AIC power plays. Coccimiglio recorded his first career game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 win. His third period power play goal tied him for the team lead with four. He snapped a four-game goal-scoring drought and, coupled with an assist on the Lakers' first goal, registered his third multiple-point game of the season. Mercyhurst, winners of its last three, is idle to January 4 and 5 when Michigan Tech visits. The Huskies are members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and are among those receiving votes nationally. |
