Cottreau Involved in Longest American Hockey League Game Ever

April 25, 2008

Albany, N.Y. - Former Mercyhurst player Ben Cottreau was part of history of sorts last night. The Philadelphia Phantoms defeated Cottreau's team, the Albany River Rats, 3-2, in the longest game in the 72-year history of the American Hockey League. Ryan Potulny's goal at 2:58 of the fifth overtime period gave the Phantoms the win and a 3-2 lead in the East Division semifinal series.

Cottreau did not factor in the scoring but, unfortunately for him, was on the ice when the game-winner was scored. The game began at 7:01 Thursday night and ended at 12:39 Friday morning.

Game 6 is Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.
