Cottreau and Coccimiglio Named to Atlantic Hockey Honor Roll

Jan. 21, 2008

Erie, Pa. - A pair of Mercyhurst men's hockey players were honored by Atlantic Hockey for their performances last weekend at Connecticut. Senior forward Ben Cottreau and freshman forward Brandon Coccimiglio were both named to the AHA Honor Roll as the Lakers went 0-1-1 last weekend in Storrs.

Cottreau stretched his scoring streak to nine games with a goal and two assists over the weekend at UConn. Cottreau leads the team in goals (8), assists (15), and points (23). He moved into 10th place all-time in points with 143, surpassing former Laker standout Scott Champagne's (2003-06) total of 141.

Coccimiglio had a goal and an assist at UConn. He assisted on Mercyhurst's first goal on Friday that tied the game at 1-1 and scored the Lakers' first goal on Saturday that cut the Huskies' lead to 2-1. He is tied for second on the team in scoring with seven goals and seven assists.

Co-Players of the Week accolades went to Air Force's Matt Fairchild and RIT's Simon Lambert, while Canisius' Andrew Loewen was named Goaltender of the Week and RIT's Andrew Favot was Rookie of the Week.

Mercyhurst will continue its six-game road trip at Bentley Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. both nights. The Lakers, in fourth place in the Atlantic Hockey standings with 17 points, are one point ahead of both Army and Canisius and two points ahead of the Falcons and Holy Cross. Sacred Heart is two points ahead of Mercyhurst. RIT, who swept the Pioneers last weekend, leap-frogged Air Force to lead the pack with 23 points.
