Matt Lundin Named Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week

Jan. 14, 2008

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst junior goaltender Matt Lundin was named the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Goaltender of the Week after he recorded his first shutout in a Mercyhurst uniform, fourth in his career. It is his second such honor this season as he was also named for the week of Dec. 17.

Lundin stopped all 29 Army shots and played the last few minutes in obvious discomfort after a goal-mouth collision. He was also spectacular late in the third when Army, trailing 2-0, had a 5-on-3 power play for a full two minutes and couldn't score.

Freshman forward Steve Cameron and sophomore defenseman Matt Fennell were named to the AHA Honorable Mention team.

Cameron scored goals in back-to-back games for the first time in his collegiate career over the weekend. He scored the first power-play goal of his career late in the third period Friday against Army and scored Mercyhurst's second goal Saturday to snap a 1-1 second period tie and put the Lakers ahead to stay. That goal came just 32 seconds after Army had tied the game on a power play. Cameron had eight shots in the two games and finished +1.

Fennell recorded the first multiple-goal game of his career Saturday in a 4-2 win over Army. He scored the game's first and last goals (EV, PP). He was also instrumental in killing 17 of 19 Black Knight power plays in the two games, all seven in a 3-0 win Friday and 10 of 12 Saturday. Army had four 5-on-3 advantages in the two games (full two minutes, 1:18, full two minutes, and 1:43) and scored only one goal. The Black Knights had nine straight power-play chances in Saturday's game. Fennell's first goal Saturday was his first since a 6-2 loss at Air Force on Nov. 3. Fennell finished the two games with a +2 rating and six shots. He also received Atlantic Hockey's Scholar Athlete of the Year award before Friday's contest.

The Lakers will begin a six-game road trip at Connecticut on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
