South Haven, Mich. - Mercyhurst's Brendan Flood followed up an even par round of 72 on day one with a 3-under par 69 to take surprising medalist honors at the Great Lakes Fall Regional Monday. The Lakers also climbed from 15th place to end in a tie for 13th in the overall standings.
While Flood was one of Mercyhurst's top golfers a year ago, he had not led the Lakers in scoring in any competitive round this year until his 72-69 gave him medalist honors by one stroke over Wayne State's Ryan Johnson.
His round helped Mercyhurst pass Gannon and move even with Lewis on day two. As a team, the Lakers shot 305-307 for a 612 total. Kyle Waddell followed with a 1-over par 73 during the second round for a 149 total. Steve Barr went 77-83 for a 160 and Tyler Bidwell shot 80-82 for 162. Craig Bishop shot an 83, two shots better than day one, in the final round for a 168.
Ferris State won the team event with a 584, followed by Bellarmine at 590. Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky and Saginaw Valley State finished in a three-way tie for third at 591.
Mercyhurst will be back in action at the Wayne State Invitational Friday. |
