Waddell Top Finisher as Laker Golf Places 13th

Mineral Wells, W.Va. - Junior Kyle Waddell shot a 7-over-par 149 to finish in a three-way tie for 29th and help the Mercyhurst men's golf team to a 13th-place finish at the two-day Burger King/Ohio Valley University Invitational held at the par 72 Woodridge Plantation Golf Club in Mineral Wells, W.Va., on Sept. 7-8. Waddell shot an opening round 75 and returned on Saturday to fire a 74. Teammates Patrick Jackson and Tyler Bidwell each shot 11-over-par to finish tied for 47th. Steve Barr finished one-shot behind with back-to-back rounds of 77, while Ryan McNulty and Ben Deets finished 15-over and 16-over respectively. Taking first place at the invitational was Indiana (Pa.), which shot a 5-over -par 573 as a team. West Liberty state finished six shots behind in second place. Top individual honors went to IUP's Gavin Smith and West Liberty State's Matt Hicks after they matched rounds of 71 and 68 to close at 3-under -par. The men's squad next competes in the Malone Invitational in Canton, Ohio on Sept. 14-15. |
