Granville, Ohio - Tyler Bidwell shot an opening round 74 and the Mercyhurst men's golf team is tied for eighth place after the first round of the Ted Barclay Spring Invitational hosted by Denison University.

Bidwell tore up the course with a 34 on the front nine and shot a 40 over the final nine holes to sit three strokes behind tournament leader Lucas Murray of Mount Union. In the team competition, Otterbein leads the event with a 294, followed by Mount Union with 297 and Denison with 299. Mercyhurst's 317 places them in a tie for eighth with the College of Wooster.

Kyle Waddell was the Lakers' second best finisher with an 80 and Patrick Jackson followed with an 81. Steven Barr had an 82 and Ben Deets finished with an 83. Competing unattached, Matt Mahoney shot an 82 and Darragh Agnew shot an 88.

Mercyhurst will complete play at the Ted Barclay Spring Invitational Sunday.
