ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College football team has added a non-conference game against Kentucky State to the opening week of the 2007 schedule. The teams are tentatively set to meet in Frankfort, Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. on August 25.

It will be the Lakers first non-GLIAC contest since the 2004 season, when Mercyhurst traveled to Division I-AA Southeastern Louisiana. The Lakers last non-conference Division II opponent was in 2003, when Mercyhurst defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 30-21.

It will be the first ever meeting of the two schools.

Mercyhurst loses 14 seniors from a 2006 squad that went 3-8, but returns All-GLIAC performers on offense, defense and special teams. Richard Stokes was named to the All-GLIAC second team as a running back, Brandon Hill as a punter, and Bryan Boyce was named as an honorable mention on defense.

In all the team returns its top six rushers, top two passers, and four of its top five tacklers from a year ago.
