Lakers Sign 12 On National Signing Day

Feb. 6, 2008

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst football team announced the signing of 12 high school players Wednesday on National Signing Day. The Lakers signed seven players from the state of Pennsylvania, three from Ohio, and one each from Virginia and Indiana.

"This group is a great mix of student-athletes and people," head coach Marty Schaetzle said. "It gives Mercyhurst College a fantastic future as we head into the PSAC."

Mercyhurst will leave the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in 2008. The program competed in the GLIAC since 1998.

The team will open the 2008 season with a non-conference game at Wayne State (Mich.) Aug. 30 before beginning a 10-game PSAC slate Sept. 6 at Cheyney. Mercyhurst will open at home Sept. 20 against Clarion before hosting Slippery Rock for Homecoming Sept. 27. All Mercyhurst home games will begin at 1:00 p.m.
