East Shuts Out West In Spring Game

April 26, 2008

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst football fans got a sneak-peak at the 2008 Laker team Saturday as the squad played its annual spring game. Cody Ladutko threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Josh Szeluga as the East team defeated the West 10-0.

The game was played with a 55-minute running clock format and the Laker defense controlled the play. Ladutko's toss to Szeluga capped a 45-yard scoring drive at the 23-minute mark but that was the only scoring of the game.

Garrett Kensy led the East on an early drive but Chris Ryan missed a field goal. He later made a 22-yarder after redshirt freshman quarterback Travis Rearick led the East to the only other drive that culminated in points in the game.

Andrew Bukta stopped a drive by the West with a sack and Stewart Myers added a sack for the East to end the ballgame. Brandon Harper had an interception on a play in which wide receiver Max Khuri tried to trick the defense with a reverse.

Mercyhurst will play its first season in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in 2008 after leaving the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers open the 2008 campaign at Wayne State in a non-conference contest August 30 at 12:30 p.m. Mercyhurst's home opener takes place Sept. 20 against new conference opponent Clarion at 1 p.m.
