Brennan Selected Team Captain at World University Games

Erie, Pa. - Prior to opening competition with Australia at the 24th World University Summer Games in Bangkok, Thailand, former Mercyhurst College men's basketball standout Mitch Brennan was selected to serve as team captain.

Brennan, who played in 110 games as a Laker, was introduced as the team captain at the Australian athlete dinner and along with Olympian swimmer Michelle Englesman, Brennan led all of the Australian athletes at the opening ceremony, which was held in front of 10,000 athletes and 80,000 spectators.

Brennan helped the team to a 17th-place finish out of the 24 teams competing. The team earned victories over he Czech Republic, Chinese Taipei and Kazakhstan.

The World University Summer Games are held every two years and representing the countries are university students or recent graduates from the ages of 17-25.

Brennan was just one of the two Division II players on the Australian team in 2007. While at Mercyhurst, he shot .411 percentage from 3-point range in 2006-07, which was the sixth best season for a Laker. His .857 mark at the charity stripe was a team-best. Brennan also ranks among the school's top 50 in all-time scorers, finishing his career with over 700 points.
