Bay City, Mich. - Mercyhurst men's basketball senior Terry Smith finished his career ranked at or near the top of the school's all-time leaders in scoring, steals, assists and 3-pointers, and on Thursday, he was named to the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) South Division First Team and the All-GLIAC South Division Defensive Team.

Smith, a Syracuse, N.Y., native, paced the 15-13 Lakers at both ends, leading the team and tying for third in the conference in scoring at 17.3 points per game. He also led the league and ranked 17th in Division II in steals at 2.5 per game.

Smith is the first Laker to be named to both the first team and defensive team in the same season since Justin Shouse in 2003-04.

Smith was named Preseason All-GLIAC South Division prior to the season and was a second team pick as a sophomore in 2005-06. His senior year was his best, totaling 481 points and 52 assists. Smith was also instrumental in leading the team to make a school record 230 3-pointers. He hit an average of 3.3 per game, which ranked 15th in Division II, and his 91 threes set a new Mercyhurst record for 3-pointers made in a season.

He tallied double figures in 26 of the team's 28 games and scored 20 or more 10 times. On Feb. 16, in a pivotal late-season GLIAC win over Ashland, Smith scored a career-high 37 points, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out five assists. Twenty-nine of those 37 points came in the second half, which snapped John Green's 20-year-old school record for points in a half. He drilled 13-of-22 field goals in the game and sank a school-record nine 3-pointers on 17 attempts.

On Jan. 24, Smith led the Lakers to a one-point win at Hillsdale with his first career double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. He also scored 26 points in the GLIAC Tournament Quarterfinals against Findlay.

In four years with the program, Smith totaled 1,384 points, placing him sixth on the all-time scoring list. His 213 career 3-pointers and 554 3-point attempts are both school records. He also ranks fourth in career steals with 197 and 10th in career assists with 277.

Joining Smith on the All-GLIAC South Division Team was Josh Bostic of Findlay, Kyle Goldcamp and Vince Mosley of Gannon and Tim Homan of Hillsdale. Grand Valley State's Callistus Eziukwu was named player of the year, Ashland's Kale Richardson was tabbed freshman of the year and Ric Wesley of Grand Valley State was voted coach of the year.
