Tiffin Takes Two From Lakers

TIFFIN, Ohio - Mercyhurst dropped a pair of one-run games on the road in a regional doubleheader at Tiffin, falling 10-9 and 9-8. Mercyhurst totaled 18 hits and three homers in the two games, but came away without a victory.

Game One
Laker errors led to six unearned runs as Mercyhurst fell 10-9.

Mercyhurst led 1-0 after a sacrifice fly by Joe Luli brought home David Lough in the top of the fourth, but the Dragons answered with a five-spot in the bottom of the inning.

Back-to-back three run innings put Mercyhurst on top 7-6. The Lakers got a two-run triple from Lough in the fifth and a two-run homer off the bat of Tim Echan in the sixth. Mercyhurst added another pair in the top of the seventh with a two-run blast by Luli for a 9-6 lead, but Tiffin scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Lough was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a pair of steals. Jamie Walczak singled twice and scored a pair of runs. Luli drove in three and scored twice.

Echan's homer was his first of the year.

Game Two
Tiffin scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to break an 8-8 tie and take the doubleheader sweep.

Mercyhurst got back-to-back homers in the first inning from David Lough and Josh Schmidt and added a single run in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Tiffin answered with consecutive four-run innings in the third and fourth to go up 8-4.

A Dan Bertolini double in the sixth got one run back and the Lakers tied the score with three in the seventh. Tim Echan had an RBI double and Bertolini followed with a two-run single, setting up Tiffin's game-winner in the bottom of the inning.

Bertolini was 3-for-4 with four runs batted in. Echan and Schmidt had two hits each.

Mercyhurst drops to 15-11 on the year, while Tiffin is 9-19.

The Lakers host Hillsdale in a four-game series on Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7.
