Lakers Win Fourth Straight, Down Palm Beach Atlantic 9-5
Feb. 26, 2007 LAKE WORTH, Fla. - Joe Luli hit a three-run home run in the first, and Trey Bennett went deep in the sixth as Mercyhurst claimed a 9-5 win over Palm Beach Atlantic in a game played at Palm Beach Community College. Wes Craig scattered eight hits and three walks over 5.1 innings to pick up the win. The freshman allowed just one run and fanned four. Mercyhurst got on the board in the top of the first on Luli's three-run bomb, his first of the season. Bennett, who finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, added a solo shot in the sixth. The Laker offense then broke the game open with five runs in the top of the ninth. A John Blike RBI double and a two-run single by Bennett fueled the rally. Palm Beach Atlantic tried to mount a late comeback, scoring four in the bottom of the ninth. James Ludwig relieved Craig with 2.2 innings of perfect relief. Brian Sanders and David Lough had two hits apiece. Luli finished 1-for-3 with four runs batted in. The Lakers will look to extend their four-game winning streak two games on Tuesday. Mercyhurst faces Wheeling Jesuit at Lynn at 1:00 PM, then plays Lynn at the Florida Atlantic 'A' Field at 6:00 PM. |
