Alex Winiewicz is in his second season as the pitching coach at Mercyhurst after completing his playing career at Division I Canisius in 2006.

Winiewicz was a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) All-Academic pick in 2006 as a senior and finished his career with six saves, second in school history. He began his college career at Erie Community College in 2003, and ECC finished sixth at the Division III College World Series. The following year, he was named all-region and was an Academic All-American. A team captain, Winiewicz was named the ECC Athlete of the Year as a sophomore.

A graduate of Clarence High School, he captained both the soccer and baseball teams. Winiewicz was also selected to play in the Empire State Games.

He is a 2006 graduate of Canisius with a B.S. in education after majoring in physical and health education.
