Erie, Pa - The Mercyhurst Club Hockey team won both of its home games this past weekend over the University of Rochester and the University of Pittsburgh by scores of 5-2 and 4-1 respectively. Mercyhurst was led by returning forward Jason Kilijanski who recorded 2 goals and 2 assists over the weekend. Matt Warren, Brian Stefanski, Kenny Hunt and Gannon Carr turned in multiple point weekends as well, recording 3 points each. Most impressively, the club team only scored 9 goals over the weekend, but 15 different players contributed to the score sheet. Freshman goalie Carson Loveday turned in his best performance of the year on Sunday afternoon turning away 36 of the 37 shots he faced. Coach McKinnon was pleased with the team's ability to bounce back from a poor performance on Saturday afternoon. "We came out flat against Rochester barely escaping with a win, but we played one of our best games of the year against Pittsburgh with exceptional goaltending and a very short bench due to injury". ECHL LEAGUE NOTES: Mercyhurst's 5-2 win over Rochester improves the team's record to 4-1-1 within ECHL league play. The club team has an important home and home series against Robert Morris University this coming weekend. Mercyhurst travels to Pittsburgh on Saturday and returns home on Sunday December 9th for a 2:45pm game. Both teams are fighting for sole possession of second place. Niagara University, the #14th seed in the nation remain undefeated within league play with a 4-3 win over RMU this past weekend. |
