Club Hockey Drops 2 Games at Home to CHMA Opponents
Oct. 21, 2007
Erie, Pa - The club hockey team struggled to find its stride this past weekend at the Mercyhurst Ice Center losing to John Carroll University 5-4 in overtime and falling to Youngstown State University 6-3 the following night. On Friday night against John Carroll, the club team gave up a 2 goal lead heading into the third period allowing John Carroll to tie the game and eventually win it in the extra period. Saturday night proved to be just as disappointing for the Lakers as the visiting Penguins from Youngstown State scored 3 shorthanded goals on route to a 6-3 victory. Although it is early in the season, the club hockey team has struggled to find its identity during competition. The coaching staff remains optimistic about the future, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done in the coming weeks if the team is to realize its potential. "You have to give credit to John Carroll and Youngstown State for coming into our barn and finding a way to win, but we continue to make things more difficult than they have to be", commented McKinnon. The club team will head back to the drawing board this coming week as they prepare for a set of road games against division rivals from the University of Rochester and CHMA powerhouse the Slippery Rock Pride, who are currently ranked #18 in the nation. |
