Mercyhurst Alumni Strikes Gold

Erie, Pa - The Men's Club Hockey Program are proud to announce that former club hockey player Matt Holmes has won the gold medal with Team USA at the 2007 Deaflympics that were held in Salt Lake City, Utah, February 1-10.

Matt Holmes, a defenseman from Erie, Pa. was a club hockey player under former Head Coach Bill Shannon. Holmes, the captain of the USA team had 2 assists in 5 tournament games. His team finished with a 4-1 record with its only loss coming to Team Russia in the opening game of the tournament.

The USA Hockey Magazine featured an article on the 2007 Winter Deaflympics team that won gold in Salt Lake City in its April issue. The article written by Brett Prettyman of the Salt Lake Tribune can be accessed at the following link.
