Lakers Start February 2-2
Feb. 12, 2008
Erie, Pa - To start the month of February, the Mercyhurst club hockey team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio where they played John Carroll University and chalked up a big win. The Lakers beat the John Carroll Blue Streaks by a score of 8-3 at the Gilmour Academy Ice Arena. The Lakers also played Saturday at Slippery Rock (Ranked 20th in the ACHA), where they were defeated 4-1. Friday night would prove to be a great night for junior forward Brian Stefanski, a Gilmour Alum who had an amazing game. The Cleveland native was on fire assisting with the teams last four goals while scoring the teams' fifth, and seventh markers, earning himself a total of four points on the night. Unfortunately, Friday's win over JCU did not give the team the motivation that was needed to defeat Slippery Rock University the following night. The Lakers were hoping to avenge a 5-4 overtime loss to Slippery Rock earlier this year, but the Rock proved to be the better team on the night. A week later, the team travelled south for games against the University of Pittsburgh and Youngstown State University, losing in a shootout 9-5 and winning 7-2, respectively. Despite scoring 16 goals last weekend, the lakers were only able to split the weekend series of games. Coach McKinnon commented, "Scoring goals has not been a problem as of late as our forwards are burying most of their scoring chances. Unfortunately, getting goals scored against us has been problematic. It takes a whole team to keep from being scored upon, so we will address these concerns before heading into playoffs". |
