Club Hockey Gets Win Over Syracuse
Feb. 7, 2007 Erie, Pa - The Club Hockey team improved their ECHL league record to 4-3-2 with a win Saturday night against division rival Syracuse University. Senior Brent Klimow lead the way for the Lakers, scoring twice and adding 3 assists in their 9-3 victory. The Lakers took an early 1 goal lead into the second period off a short handed goal from their leading scorer Kenny Waszak. The second period of play brought many special team opportunities in which Defenseman Brad Maxa took full advantage of scoring three goals, 2 of which came on the power play. By the end of the game, both teams had accumulated 131 minutes in penalties and 7 disqualification penalties. Eleven of the 12 goals scored in the contest originated from special team play. Having improved to 4-3-2 in league play, the Lakers currently sit in 4th place with 8 points. With a win against the University of Buffalo or another Syracuse loss, the Lakers will clinch a birth in the ECHL playoffs that are to be held in Rochester, NY, the weekend of February 23rd & 24th. |
