Gary Bowles - 2001 Hall of Fame Inductee

Goaltender Gary Bowles was one of the pioneers of the men's varsity hockey program. He played the 1987-88 season for head coach Fred Lane and his final three under present men's coach Rick Gotkin. During his four years, Mercyhurst went a combined 64-44-6.

Bowles still owns career goaltending records for most wins (56), most minutes played (5627:55), and most games played (101). He was the goaltender of record when the Lakers won their first-ever ECAC playoff game, a 5-4 verdict at Union February 27, 1990. He was the goaltender of record when Mercyhurst won its first-ever NCAA playoff game, a 5-4 triumph at Elmira March 8, 1991. Bowles was chosen team captain in both his junior and senior seasons. He was a First Team ECAC West All Star in 1991 and a Second Team choice in 1990. Bowles played in 101 of 114 games in his four years. Of the 114 games, only 35 were played in Erie (.307).

He graduated in 1991 with a degree in biology. Bowles is married to the former Susan Brown (Mercyhurst, 1991). They reside in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
