Team of the Week
Wrestling

The Mercyhurst wrestling team avenged a loss to West Liberty State a year ago by defeating the Hilltoppers 31-9 Thursday. Trailing 9-0, the Lakers swept the final seven matches, including a stunning upset at 174 pounds, where Mercyhurst's Josh Shields beat Chris Gibbs, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the country. Mercyhurst followed that up by winning Ashland's Simonson Invitational Saturday. The Lakers had five weight-class champions, two runner-ups and four more who placed in the top six at the nine-team tournament, which included rival Gannon.
