Sept. 26, 2007 Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst College athletic department has announced the induction of two people into the Mercyhurst Athletic Hall of Fame. Janet Price, a pioneer of Mercyhurst athletics, and David Lee, a former baseball player who went on to the Major Leagues, have been selected as the 2007 Hall of Fame class. Price coached numerous sports from 1969-81 and was a co-founder of the Mercyhurst sports medicine department. She was the women's basketball coach from 1969-74 and the women's volleyball coach from 1969-77. She also coached women's tennis from 1972-74, softball from 1972-79 and men's golf from 1979-81. Price was instrumental in the development and expansion of the Mercyhurst athletic department. Lee had a 10-3 career record with 104 strikeouts in 1994 and 1995, while his teams went 61-15 during those seasons. He was the ace on a squad that went 31-7 in 1995 and advanced to the NCAA Championships. He was named All-Region before being selected in the 23rd round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Colorado Rockies. Lee went on to play five seasons in the majors, compiling a 4.37 career ERA in 96 appearances with three different teams. He was the fourth Mercyhurst alum to play in the Major Leagues. "We are excited about the 2007 Hall of Fame inductees," Mercyhurst Athletic Director Craig Barnett said. "Both Janet and David represent the strong legacy and tradition of Mercyhurst athletics. We hope that our current athletes are inspired to be ambassadors of Mercyhurst College like these two have been." Price and Lee will be inducted at the "In Celebration Of Alumni" Dinner on Saturday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. for Homecoming Weekend at Egan Dining Hall on the campus of Mercyhurst College. |
